Class 13 – Dec. 1st

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 11:44 am and

Important Note:
As mentioned last class, there will be no Quiz 3 (originally scheduled for the last class). In lieu of of this quiz, there are several exercises you need to complete during the Dec. 1st class after the presentation (peer evaluation, adding “CAPabilities” categories to your e-portfolio, creating your post on the Classfolio, etc.). If you complete all these exercises, you will get full marks for the Quiz 3 allocation (otherwise, you will get zero for this allocation)… makes sure you are at the Dec. 1st class and make sure you don’t leave early.

Final Presentations
- be sure to email your report to bmkt360@gmail.com by the beginning of class tonight

- the order of presentations will be randomized except for Slot 2 which is reserved for

1. 6:35 to 7:00 – Team 1
2. 7:05 to 7:25 – Team 2 (reserved for team 2 due to client attending)
3. 7:25 to 7:45 - Team 3
4. 7:45 to 7:55 – Break
5. 7:55 to 8:20 - Team 4

This is the grading form I will be using.  I will post the results online for all teams by the end of next week.

BMKT360-81-Fall-2009-Presentation-Grading-Form

Here is what we are covering after the presentations:

8:20 to 9:20

classfolio-360

- CAPabilities categories added to e-Portfolio — you should add four categories to your e-portfolio representing Capilano University’s School of Business “CAPabilities”:  Communications, Analysis and Decision Making, Social Interaction, Citizenship & Global Perspectives.  You can add categories from the Posts | Categories tab from the WordPress dashboard.  Once you have added these four categories, go to the Edit post for each post and assign one or more of these four categories.  This will make it easier for employer to see the general skills and abilities you have mastered (in high demand by employers) in addition to the course content competencies.

- e-Portfolio added to Classfolio (post with a few sentences, screen shot of your e-portfolio and link to your e-portfolio… you can log in with your existing zenprojectsites.com username and password).  Note: As mentioned in class, you don’t need to do this Classfolio step.  I can set up.

- Peer Evaluation (this is required but please don’t complete this peer evaluation form until I have explained the instructions in the Dec. 1st class)

- Self Evaluation (this is required)

- “Secret word” form.  You must submit to this form in order to see your grades (unofficial) online on the course website.  If you don’t complete, you won’t see your grades until the final marks have been submitted and grades are on the official Capilano University site.

- Course and Instructor Evaluation

- Midterm answer key (I will posting this by Monday next week).  As part of this I will be showcasing some of the best answers with a link from your first name to your e-portfolio.  This is mainly for the social media question.

That’s it!  It was nice having you in the course and overall, the class did a really good job.

I will be posting the team presentation and report grades, and peer evaluation weightings along with the grades by the end of next week (Dec. 11th).  I will be submitting the official grades to the Capilano grades system on Dec. 15th.

e-Portfolio Assignment

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 6:41 pm and

Your e-Portfolio assignment is due Nov. 10th and is worth 5%.
This is an individual assignment where you will be developing a career e-portfolio using the WordPress blogging tool to showcase what you have done in BMKT 360 but also your other courses and achievements.

Your e-Portfolio should contain the following posts:

1. One introduction / overview post that has been set to “stick”… i.e stay at the top of your e-portfolio. This is your welcome posting and should also be “tagged” with keywords that will help attract relevant, prospective employers (more details are included in the 10-step instructions). It’s also a good idea to mention your career aspirations in this post.
2. One post that showcases your team’s BMKT 360 project
3. One post that showcases your understanding of MS Excel
4. One post that showcases your research article blog
5. At least three posts that showcase projects you have done in your other courses at Capilano University (e.g. marketing, organizational behavior, etc.)
6. At least one post that showcases a marketing event you have attended recently (within the past six months) that may be of interest to prospective employers. Although it’s best to showcase a “face to face” event you attended, ideally with some kind of student club or industry association (e.g. BCAMA), if you are unable to showcase an event then you could attend a webcast event and write a post about that.
7. At least one post that showcases a hobby or sport you are involved with, or some other personal interest, or an association or organization you are involved with. Employers like to see that you are about more than just school and this post will help with that.
8. At least one “wildcard” posting that showcases something else that you think will be of interest to prospective employers (e.g. an overview of another degree or education program you took at another school, your reflections on life or what you are learning at Capilano University, your reflections on a current trends or news event, etc.)

In summary, you should have a total of at least 10 posts. The posts can be brief. In fact, it’s a good idea to keep posts to a maximum of a short paragraph or two… a few sentences can also work for some of your postings if you want the attention to be on a photo or linked file.

It’s a good idea to include an image within each post (a screen shot of a report works well for documents you want to showcase)

With the exception of the first welcome/overview post that should be “stuck” at the top, you can use any order for your postings.

To create your e-portfolio, you should go to zenportfolios and enter your login information on the right hand side (it’s the same username and password as your project website). Once you have logged on, then you can click on the Create a new e-portfolio link.

When you are registering and it asks you for your sign up code, enter fall2009.

Here are the 10-step instructions for developing your e-portfolio.

It’s a good idea to get started on this assignment right away and then work on it gradually over the coming month. It’s not something you can normally do “at the last minute” and you want to make sure you make a good online impression with potential employers.

Once you are completed your e-Portfolio, you need to submit the URL and some other information to this online submission form by Nov. 10th.

Due date extended for research article and research design

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin @ 3:36 pm and

I mentioned this last class but just in case anyone missed it, two of the course assignments are due later than indicated on the course outline.

Your Wikipedia style research article (individual assignment) is now due Oct 27th before class (two weeks later than what is indicated in your course outline). We will also be using the WordPress tool for this instead of Google’s knol tool. WordPress is the same tool you will use for your team’s project site and your e-portfolio. Based on feedback from last semester’s class, I decided to forgo you having to learn the extra Google knol tool.

Your Research Design document (team document) is now due Oct. 27th (one week later than what is indicated on your course outline).

Instructions for these assignments will be provided at your Oct. 13th class.
